Riding In Cars With Boys

I keep forgetting how many movies Brittany Murphy is in. I remember watching this movie a long time ago, and when I caught it on one of the premium networks, I sat down and watched again.

And realized that I didn't remember a thing about the movie.

It's about Beverly, Drew Barrymore, a 15 year old girl who ends up pregnant in 1965. She marries her boyfriend (reluctantly) and spends the next ten or so years of her life trying to live the life she thinks she deserves. She is an awful mother, and treats her kid more like an equal, and he ends up taking care of her most of the time. There were seriously times I wanted to reach through the screen and slap the crap out of her.

Her best friend Fay, played by Murphy, finds herself in the same situation, and the girls vow to raise their daughters as best friends, only Bev has a boy. You can use your imagination and figure out how the movie ends.

A chick flick, most definitely, but it will probably be another few years before I sit and watch it again.

The Invention Of Lying

This movie sucked.

Really. Probably the worst movie I have seen in a long time.

This disappointed me greatly, because I really do love Jennifer Garner.

Basically, this is a movie about a world where everyone tells the truth, no matter what it is.

Then one day, Mark (Ricky Gervais) tells a lie, and realizes that he can get whatever he wants by doing so. Sounds like a great premise, but they went in a really weird direction with it, and it really turned me off. I know, for some reason I am saying the word "really" a lot. Anyway, when they had Mark make up the story of God, I was pretty much done with the movie.

Seriously, don't waste your time on this one. I wish I hadn't.

Movie Reviews, And More

If you are anything like me, when you have a big purchase to make, you do your research first. I will spend weeks pouring over my options before I make a decision. I will look up personal reviews, written by people who have actually used the product. These are great, because you get honest opinions from people who know how the product works, and have tested it for themselves.

I found this site called ProductReview.com.au, where you can find reviews written about everything from movies to vacuums. I am a big movie buff myself, so I found myself drawn into reading those reviews. I was especially interested in The Sixth Sense. When I watched this movie, I had no idea what the big shock at the end was that everyone was talking about. Reading what other people wrote, I discovered that I am not the only person who really loved this movie, and who never saw the shocker coming. Watching for a second time, I was able to see all the little things I missed the first time, because I didn't know what to look for then.

Of course, I had to check out what the reviewers thought about my favorite movie of all time, The Princess Bride. There were only three reviews, but all of them were glowing. I guess I'm not the only one who sees the greatness of this movie. If you haven't seen this movie, you have GOT to rent it. No. You have to buy it. Trust me when I say you will watch it over and over again. I love that my copy is now loved by my daughters.

So, the next time you are in the market for a movie, or even a car, check out ProductReview.com.au. They have all the reviews you need to make a smart decision.

Rave About It Here, Too

Have you heard about Rave About It? It's a great site where you can go to read reviews about local businesses, written by everyday people like yourself. You can check out what is being said about graphic design sydney, or many other types of businesses. Unfortunately for me, this site is based in Australia, so it would be pretty hard to benefit from their reviews. I wish we had a site like this for our local businesses, because there have been plenty of times where I have wished I was able to share about my experiences with certain places. Not just bad experiences, but good ones, too. It would also be nice to know what others think before doing business with someone new.

In Your Own Words

You know when you are listening to the radio, and you hear an amazing song for the first time. You just can't wait to tell your friends about it, and hope that it comes back on the air soon. Then there are the songs that make you want to vomit. You know, the ones where after the first verse you can not change the station fast enough? Well, if you want to share your own Pop Music Reviews, check out everhype.com. You can sign up for free, and then dish about the songs you love, and the songs you hate. You can review music, as well as artists. They have all types of music reviewed, from 80's to folk, and gospel to funk. No matter what style you prefer, you can share your opinion with the world, and also read what the world thinks of your favorite music. When you sign up, you get to fill out a personal profile, and start doing your own music reviews. You can make friends on the site, or have your existing friends join, too, and hype together. Aside from music, you can also hype games and movies. I, personally, love the ideas of a site where the reviews are from regular people.
