Cabana

My mom has this little lean to shed in her backyard that was attached to the fence that goes around her pool.  I think it was probably built to protect a riding mower from the weather, because it didn't have any side, just a roof.  When she opened the pool, she needed somewhere to keep all the chemicals and pool floats, so she had Ryan and Junior enclosed the lean to, to build a cabana of sorts.  I took this picture while they were still closing in the sides...doesn't it look great?  She wanted lattice originally, but when she saw these fence slats, she fell in love.  The finished product looks awesome...I will have to remember to get a shot of it the next time I am over there swimming.

Construction

My mom just bought a new house.

Anyone who has bought a house knows, there are always little things that need to be done. Sunday was family day at moms, so we headed over a little early so that Junior could put in some new toilets, and while he was busy doing that, Ryan decided to put together my mom's new TV stand for her bedroom.

He did a great job, too.

If only he hadn't put the top on backwards. I laughed as he had to take it apart to fix his mistake...

A Place Of His Own

Ryan has dreams of building a shed for himself in the yard. He wants it to function like a little house, with doors and windows. He keeps saying it will be a place where I can go and do my wood crafts, too. He wants to build a workbench, and have it to where I can use all of tools easily. Of course, this means that the shed will need power run to it.

I can do a lot of things myself, but electrical things are not on that list. I will be better off calling in a Phoenix Electrician to do the work, so I don't have to worry about the outlets overheating and burning the shed down. That would not be a good thing.

Of course, I would have to share this shed with Ryan. He has a long list of things he wants in there, like a couch and a television. He says he needs a place to go and play playstation without being interrupted. I find this kind of funny coming out of his mouth, since he is the only one in this apartment who has his own room. If anyone needs a sanctuary away from all the noise, it's poor Junior. He doesn't even have a room. He sleeps on the couch. But, before you start feeling bad for him, he likes sleeping there. I have offered to get a bed for him, but he says the couch is better for his back.

To each his own, I guess.

Ryan And His Buildings

Ryan loves to build things. When we lived at the old house, he built a garage type building for his bikes, a dog house for the cats to stay in, and he built ramps to jump with his bike. He loves when Junior lets him use the power tools, and he is actually pretty good with them. If you remember, a few weeks ago he built the boxes for my garden to be planted in.

The past few days he has been working on a special project. He's not building anything right now, but he is working on the plans. He keeps asking me questions like "how big of a craft area do I need?" and "do I need benches or just tables?". When I asked him why he wanted to know, he refused to tell me. I did, however, overhear him talking to Junior about building me a shed type craft room outside. Of course, half of it would be his to do his work in, and half would be mine. How sweet is that?

I just hope we don't end up needing to consult with any San Francisco general contractors. I have faith that Ryan can do whatever he sets his mind to, even if it takes him a couple of years.
