Trust

My son, who is 13, has started staying up all night. He has become addicted to a computer game, and during the day, he doesn't get a chance to play because I am usually online. I trust him not to go anywhere he shouldn't, but he is a 13 year old boy, so I sometimes wonder if he searches for things he shouldn't. I know there are programs available, like Keylogger, where I can check up on him. This program can show me every single thing he types, but I am not sure that is the kind of mom I want to be. I think, for now, I will just trust that I raised him right, and trust him.

Hey chickey - Having 2 teenage boys myself (16 & 13), who like to play online, I have a little suggestion. I'm not the kind of mom to sit next to them while they play games online (gag) or download their music (I get a headache just thinking about what my 16 year old listens to!) - and I have experience with a keylogger. An ex installed one on my machine...and after that experience, I would never, ever use a keylogger. Ever. (It took a forensic computer analyst to get it off...and we never got it off totally.)

Anyway...my advice to you? Boys will be boys. It's good that you're trusting him - but I found it put my mind at ease (and I found out when they started...ummm..."straying" from the innocent games) to check the history every once in awhile. It will give you an idea of where he's been, you can do it without installing anything on your computer that may be obnoxious, and you won't feel like you're "invading" his privacy since you won't be looking at every keystroke he makes.

I quickly learned "boys will be boys" - and that boys that age are curious. You just don't want him getting his information at some yucky site.

Just a suggestion. :)

Sometimes I just don't want to know where my boys have been on the computer. But I sure hope they are not going where they should not be going.
