Stay Warm

I live in South Carolina. For the most part, our winters are mild, and if we get storms, it is more likely to be ice than snow. The problem with ice storms is that our power usually goes out, because the power lines snap from the weight of the ice. Our last bad storm a couple of years ago left us without power for almost a week. Let me tell you, that was not fun, especially for the kids. My husband vowed that before the next storm he would buy a Power Generator so we could run the refrigerator and maybe the television.

We looked into a bunch of different types of generators, like Natural Gas Generators and diesel generators. My sister actually had one put in at her house, and she says it is comforting to know that she has that back up in case her power goes out. Bowers Generator Systems are longer lasting, because they do not use regular gas, which can burn hotter and shorten the life of a generator. You can utilize a Generator Transfer Switch to use power from your generator, instead of your power company, to help save some money on power costs.

If you live in an area where your power is interrupted frequently, you might want to look into getting a generator. They are a good investment, considering the amount of food you lose when the power is out for days at a time. If that's not enough incentive, think of how much the kids would enjoy being able to watch television, or staying warm. Quiet kids equal happy parents. That's all I'm saying.

eeek..Don't even get me started on ice storms, we went over week without power one year, while in NC. Although, I *think* we are out of the hassle of those now that we are in Texas. Nah..we just have TORNADOES to worry about! Ugh. If it is not one thing, it's another! Bleh!

you are soooo right. quiet kids = happy parents. :) we had a horrible rain/thunder/wind storm over the summer that left us with no power for almost two days, and that is the longest we have been out since i am an adult... but i was annoyed that we had to wait that long, i couldn't imagine a week. :(

we have a generator for the camper, but it is gas powered and not a HUGE one, but a good one... we would like to get a bigger one and more efficent one, some day for the house. now that we live in the sticks who knows how long we would be with out power. ugh. i hate to think about it. lol

good suggestion!!

i hope you don't have any icestorms this year and don't loose power for any reason.
