Art Supplies For My Girls

I took the kids to therapy on Monday, and it ended up that only Brandi and I had time with Elizabeth.  I was having a hard week, and a had a lot to talk about, so by the time I was done, there wasn't enough time left to talk to each of the kids.  I felt that Brandi benefits the most from therapy, so she spoke to her after me.  Next week, Ryan and Kasi will get their turn.

Elizabeth told me she was going to ask Brandi to do some art therapy by drawing a picture of her family, and then describing each person in three words.  It was quite funny to see how she drew each of us, and of course, I was the prettiest.  Elizabeth suggested that I encourage Brandi to start keeping a journal where she can write or draw whenever she is feeling particularly down.

I mentioned this to Brandi, and while she loves the idea, she wants to take it to the next level.  She wants me to look into easels and art supplies so that she can have her own little art studio.  I was a little surprised when Kasi didn't pipe up and agree with her, since she has always loved to draw.  I believe that someday, Kasi will be a famous fashion designer.  She sketches out some pretty nice outfits and dresses.  She would definitely benefit if I got some art studio furniture and made her a little corner where she could pursue her dreams.  I could put her right beside my desk and we could spend time together as I worked and she drew.

I think we need some girl bonding time.

My Kind Of Art

This is something I would hang in my home. Surprised to see the purplish colors? You shouldn't be.

I love the simplicity, yet abstractness of this painting.

Yeah, I have no idea what that means, lol, but I just know that this painting speaks to me, and isn't that what it's all about?

Art Is Subjective

I wish I knew more about art. I want to be one of those people who can walk through an art gallery or a museum and know all about the painting, and the artists who painted them. I think it is fascinating the things that people paint. I don't know that I prefer portraits, like this Catherine The Great, painted by Sergey Smirov. Now, don't get me wrong. This painting is beautiful in it's own way. I love the checkerboard trees, and the fullness of her dress.

I just don't think I can see this hanging in my home. I prefer paintings that are a little more modern, with bold colors and clean lines. Wow, that kind of sounded like I knew what I was talking about right there, didn't it? Don't be fooled. I know nothing.

I think it's time for a trip to the library. I am sure I can find lots of books about art, maybe even an Art For Dummies type book. It can't be that hard to learn, can it?

Maybe I will do a little research online. I think I'll try and find a painting I would hang in my house, and show you what my taste is really like.

Beauty

I was talking about how I painted the girls shelves different colors to brighten up their room, which got me thinking that maybe they need some paintings for the walls. I found this artist, Glen Tarnowski, and his paintings are beyond beautiful. The one on the left is really cool, even though I don't understand it. I am sure there is all kinds of meaning to the flower and the fish, and the guy on the tightrope, if that is even supposed to be a guy. Either way, I love the colors in this one.

He also does sculptures that are amazing. He has one of an apple cut in half, and made into a butterfly. You definitely need to go check out his site, especially if you are looking for some art for your home.

Something New

Check out this painting. Isn't it cool?

I was looking online for wall art because I really need something to go on the wall in my dining area. I don't have a dining room, it's just a small section of my kitchen, so I want something that will go with my kitchen.

I have black appliances, and I love the modern look of this painting. I think they will go well together. What do you think?
