Four More Days!

I can not believe there are only four days until Christmas day.  This is the first year, in many, many years that we have not had to borrow money to get the kids their gifts.  Sure, it's not going to be a big Christmas, but each kid is going to get exactly what they asked for, which doesn't happen very often around here.

We have lots to do the next few days, too.  On Christmas Eve, we are going to visit some of my husband's cousins, and then we are going to my sister's house to exchange gifts with my dad.  Christmas Day will be spent with my mom, of course, which I am really looking forward to.

I am also looking forward to seeing what Junior and the kids have for mt under the tree.  It's been many, many years since Junior and I have spent money on each other, letting the kids pick out gifts for us.  We decided that we will worry about "real life" stuff like car insurance and changing our cable package after the first of the year.  We have until February to pay for our yearly car insurance policy, and I think I have until March to decide about the cable.  It's nice to put those things on the back burner for the next week or so, and not worry about money.  Or even worry about anything.

We are dedicated to enjoying this Christmas, stress free.

Who Is The Superstar?

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of PlayStation MOVE. All opinions are 100% mine.
Let me set the scene for you.

WHO: me, Junior, Ryan, Kasi, and Brandi

WHAT: family game night

WHERE: the living room

WHEN: at least once a month

WHY: because it's FUN!

Family game night is kind of a tradition around here.  It started a few years ago when we taught the kids how to play Rummy.  I would bake up all kinds of junk food and we would gather around the table and play and eat.  It was nice spending time with the kids, and they had a lot of fun beating Junior and I.  We have gotten tired of playing cards, so we recently started playing board games.  As much fun as this is, I want to start doing something a little more physical.  I want us to get up and move.

There is no better way to do that than with the PlayStation®Move. The Move is a special controller and sensor system that you can add to your PlayStation3 for only $99, and it adds the ability to be interactive with video games.  (think Wii)  I was searching for a game online that we could all play together, and I found one called TV Superstars, and I think it has something for each of us.

In "Let's Get Physical", you can shoot paint cannons and perform stunts.  I can see Ryan playing this game, and doing really well with it.  I mean, what boy doesn't like performing stunts?

In "Frock Star", you can take center stage and model your way to stardom.  If you have met my children, you know this is right up Brandi's alley.  She already has the diva attitude down pat.

In "DIY Raw", you can paint, saw, hammer...does anyone else think this would be perfect for my husband?

In "Big Beat Kitchen", you can make over celebrity homes.  Yup, this one is totally me.

And finally, for Kasi, we have "Super Television Acting Agency".  She can perform and record her own TV commercials.

As you can see, there is a game within a game for every member of my family.  I am looking forward to getting both the PS3 and the Move so that we can enjoy this game in the future.

Signs

Every year, Junior's ex-father-in-law Del tries to start a business.  He wants to be able to open a produce stand in his yard.

There are a couple of things that prevent this from being successful every year.  First, he lives right next door to a big, successful produce stand.  Second, he likes to give away his produce for free.

A few years ago, I ran the stand.  Every day during the Spring/Summer, I sat in his yard, under a big tent, selling produce.  Now, this wouldn't have been too bad if a few things were different.  For one thing, I was there from about 8 in the morning until 7 or 8 at night.  That's a long day.  I also had all the kids with me, because Junior was either working or sleeping.  Now, for my littles to be out in the heat, with nothing to do, for that length of time, well, it was difficult.  Add to this the fact that there was no bathroom, so if me or the kids had to go, we had to leave the stand and walk to the closest store.  It was not fun.

But, these people are like family, so I did it.  From May to July.  I would be lying if I said I was disappointed when he decided to close down because he wasn't making any money.  He was investing too much in the produce, buying it at a local farmer's market, and not making enough selling it.  There was a point in time where people were coming to the stand, and asking if Del was there.  most of the time he wasn't, and people would leave saying they'd be back when he was there, because he gave them free stuff and I didn't.  That did not help with the making of money, I can tell you that.

Last year, he decided that he was going to grow his own produce.  You would think this was a great idea, except that his produce always tasted funny.  Junior said it was because of the soil (he planted his garden in an old goat fields...and when I say old, I mean he got rid of the goats and then planted his produce) and the sprays he used on the plants.  Needless to say, he didn't make it work last year, either.

Apparently, he has decided that the time has come to try again.  He called me last night and asked me to make him some signs to hang in his yard, advertising what he's selling.  I did, and now I am waiting for him to ask me to sell for him.

Is it wrong that I don't want to?

Bowling At Nana's House

My mom bought a wii. Right after Christmas, we were at my sister's, and she introduced my mom to wii bowling. It wasn't a week later and my mom went and bought her system. Now when we go over there, the kids have something to do. We just bring our remote, and they are entertained for hours.

Of course, the adults take turns bowling, too.

Check out Brandi's bowling stance. I love how the little leg goes up! lol!

It's New Year's Eve!

Tonight is the night! New year's eve. We have no plans, other than playing games and spending time as a family. If I know Junior, he will be asleep by eight, and the kids and I will stay up til the ball drops. I am sure there will be some fierce games of wii bowling, and probably more than one game of tennis. The only thing I do not want to do tonight is talk about medicare supplement plans. Thankfully it will be many years before I have to start worrying about that.

I prefer not to go anywhere, so I don't have to worry about making it home safely. But to all of you who do brave the roads tonight, please be careful. If you drink, don't drive. If you drive, don't drink. Simple as that. I want you all to still be here tomorrow.

Time With Family

I can not believe how fast this year is going by. It's already Spring, and Easter is in two days. The kids still need to dye their eggs. I did get them boiled today, so that is a step in the right direction. I think we are going to wait until tomorrow night, and color them with my sisters kids. This should be an interesting experience, because it will be a one year old, a two year old, a three year old, a six year old, a seven year old, a nine year old, and three older kids doing it. I am so happy we will be at Colleen's house, and not mine. I am almost positive that something will be spilled. Oh, and the smell of the vinegar. Yuck.

Unfortunately, one of my sisters, Cheryl, is leaving tomorrow night, and won't be here for Easter. My sister Tami is staying, so that will be nice. It's great that we will be spending Easter with family, and not sitting home talking to strangers in Anime Chat City, which just happens to be a great place to meet people who share your interest in Anime.

My mom plans on doing all the cooking for Sunday, and she always makes the best macaroni and cheese. I am in charge of bringing an appetizer, but haven't decided exactly what kind I will bring. I think I am just going to go to the store with my sisters tomorrow, and we can get everything we need and just split the bill. Either way, I am sure we will have a wonderful time.
