Let's Talk About Bugs

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of SaferBrand. All opinions are 100% mine.
Spring is here, which means flowers are blooming and gardens are being planted.  I always loved having a garden full of tomatoes, cucumbers and squash, and wish I could plant a garden here.  I probably could, but the guy who mows the grass would probably mow it over, and that would be an incredible waste of money.  So for this year, I will just steal the veggies I love out of other family members gardens.

Consider yourselves warned, family of mine.

I was able to convince Junior to buy me a hanging plant, and I hung it outside my front door on a hook that was already there.  I was wanting ferns, but they are so expensive.  The flower I got is purple, but I can't remember the name of it.  Pansies, I think.  Thankfully, it is growing beautifully, with no signs of bugs or disease.

If you find your gardens, or flowers, or even house plants infested with bugs, you should try EndALL insect spray.  It kills 45 different insects on contact, from eggs to adults, and is safe to use in organic gardens.  The website says is uses a "unique formulation of organic insecticides that has been blended to kill on contact. Organic Pyrethrin and soap kill adult and larval stages while Neem oil kills the eggs to prevent re-infestation".  You can use it on your plants up until the day before harvesting, but they recommend not spraying your plants in the heat of the day, because that could lead to photo toxicity (burn from the sun).

If I had to use a spray, I would feel better using one that is organic.  I don't want harsh chemicals on the veggies I'm going to be eating.

Would you?

Do You See What I See?

I have my first "big" red tomato. It is just about ready to be picked.

I am so happy that my veggies are growing and ripening.

I am looking forward to my peppers. That's the only veggie I haven't picked yet.

Another Loaf

I made another zucchini bread today, and remembered to take a picture of it. As you can see, Junior has already stolen a piece of it. He says it's just as good as the first one.

I picked my first cucumbers from the garden, and they are sliced and covered in italian dressing. They will make a yummy side to dinner tomorrow night.

Oh, and my big tomatoes are finally turning red!

Veggies Galore

I am going to take you on a short little tour of my garden. Let's start with the roma tomatoes. Don't they look yummy! I can not wait until they are all red and juicy, ready to be eaten.

Here is one of the many zucchini growing. These are going to taste great on the grill!

And a picture of a cucumber. These are going to be delicious sliced up with some garlic and italian dressing.
I am proud of my little garden. I am just so impatient for things to be ripe.

From A Seed

Remember all those vegetable seeds I planted and tended to so lovingly? Do you also remember how all of them, except the squash, died when I put them outside?

Well, here is a picture of my first squash. There are a bunch more, too. It seems the rain from the past few weeks has done wonders for my garden.

Isn't it beautiful?

My First Cuke!

Look at my little baby cucumber! Isn't it adorable. I was so excited this morning to see these little guys all over the cucumber plants. I can not wait until stuff starts ripening. I am going to be giving away produce if everything comes in the way it looks like it will. Wait, did that make sense? You know what I mean. I will be sharing with whoever wants some.

Big Boys

Check out my tomatoes. These were supposed to be my grape tomatoes, but it doesn't look like that's what I got. My mom is excited, because she wanted big ones to make fried green tomatoes. I like the big ones for sandwiches, but prefer the little ones for my salads.

Luckily, my cherry and roma plants have tons of tomatoes on them. Now I just have to wait for them to turn red!

Flowers, Beautiful Flowers

There's my first zucchini flower. I was so excited to see that this morning.
Below is my first cucumber flower. I hope that both plants produce lots of veggies.
We love our veggies around here.

Romas

Look at how tall my tomato plant is! This one has a few tomatoes on it, and so far, they look like romas.

The other day at the party, the girls were using my garden as home base while playing tag. I stopped them real quick. I didn't want my poor little plants to get trampled.

Party Time, Almost

Kasi's party is all planned out for next weekend. I can not believe she is going to be twelve years old. I know she has so many things to look forward to as she enters her teen age years, and I hope we can maintain the same relationship we have right now.

We decided on a Hawaiian themed party, and I have a lot of decorating to do. I hope the weather is nice, because I want to have the party outside. My yard needs a lot of work first, though. I need to mow and weed eat the grass. The garden needs to have some weeds pulled. I wish I could plant some flowers, but my yard is not set up for that. With all the rain we have gotten lately, the grass in my yard is so soggy, and it's like one big mud puddle. I may have to consult a Chicago Landscaper to get some ideas of what I can do to make my yard more appealing. I know it's too late for next weekend, but the summer is just beginning, and I want to be able to cook out a lot. I would love for my yard to look great when I do.

Done!

We finally got the boxes filled, and the plants outside. I loaded them up with some miracle grow, so hopefully they will get big quick. We ended up buying two tomato plants, one cherry and one roma, and I have the grape tomato plant hanging on my porch.
This is my garden:

These are my cantaloupe.

These are my squash.

These are my cucumbers.

These are the peppers and tomatoes.

I can't wait until I see some veggies!

Our Seeds Are Planted

PLUS

EQUALS

Brandi and I decided to plant some seeds.
We bought canteloupe, cucumbers, squash, and peppers.
We followed the directions on the tray, so hopefully in a couple of weeks we'll see some sprouts.
I will take pictures to track our progress.
With a little luck, we might even see some veggies in a few months!
