On Company Time

Do you own your own company, and have company vehicles?  If so, you may want to look into vehicle tracking systems.  Knowing where you employees are while on company time can save you money in a bunch of different ways.   For one thing, gas prices are pretty high right now, and if your employee is using the company vehicle to run personal errands on company time, you have a right to know bout it so that you can put a stop to it.  Tracking your vehicles can also insure that your employees are being efficient. 

Some people may think this is an invasion of their privacy, but I don't agree with that.  If you are on the clock, than your boss has a right to know how you are spending your time.

Work From Home

I have been looking for a job, and I am kind of hoping to find one I can do from home, other than blogging.  I read about this company named 2PONS Magazine that pays you to sell advertising space in their magazine, and it sounds simple enough.  You can Apply Here Start Tomorrow.  My only worry is that I am not sure how well I would handle rejection.

My Boys Work Well Together

My son is just like my husband.  They could both spend their days inside an Ace Hardware Superstore and never get bored.   They love power tools and cars, and fixing anything they can get their hands on.  In fact, my son will take something apart just to see how it fits backs together.

When our water lines broke in the house we used to live it, Ryan was right up under Junior's skin, watching everything he did to fix the problem.  They even shopped for Discount Plumbing Supplies together. I love that Junior is patient enough (most of the time) to let Ryan watch him fix things, and ask questions.  It's a great way for him to learn.  There was a saying I learned while working my first job as a teenager, and it was, "Tell me, I'll forget.  Show me, I'll remember.  Let me try, I'll understand.".  Junior has no problem letting Ryan work right beside him, and help as much as he can.  In fact, Ryan can now change brake pads and do other minor repairs on cars, all because Junior took the time to let him learn from him.

Ryan has also helped Junior do a lot of work around my mom's house.  He has assisted in the cutting down of trees, the running of water lines and electrical outlets, and all kinds of other things.  Last weekend, he cut my mom's grass for her.  As a thank you, my mom is going to buy him the Wolverine Work Boots he has had his eye on.  

I know that this time spent with his dad means a lot to Ryan, and I hope someday, if and when he has a son of his own, they will have the same kind of relationship.

I Made Myself An Office

I am finding it hard to work with the kids home.  There are so many distractions, and it's always so loud in my house.  I tried to fix this problem by turning my desk around, and creating a little "office" for myself.  See that little space right in front between the bookshelf and my desk?  That is the only way to get to my desk, so the kids can't bug me as much.  The only drawback is that I can now see the television, which is a distraction in and of itself.

Maybe I can convince Junior to put up some type of temporary wall between me and the rest of the house?  Or do you think that is too extreme?

Busy, Busy, Busy

 Junior has been working his butt off at my mom's new house.  The previous owner didn't keep up with the landscaping, so it has fallen into junior's lap.  He likes staying busy, so he isn't complaining too bad.  Today, though, when my mom started talking about building a deck around the pool, Junior gave me a "help me" look.  I think he might suggest my mom hire an oakland county contractor to build it. 

Or he might just try and talk me into helping him.

Ryan's First Job Interview

...if you can even call it that.  Last week, Ryan went into our local Zaxby's and filled out an application (they hire at 14).  The manager told him to come back Monday for an interview. 

Well, Junior had him up there at the required time, and Ryan was all ready to be interviewed.  We had deiscussed the kinds of questions he might be asked, and he had great replies.  When the time came, the guy told him that they didn't have any positions available right now, but he would keep his application on file. 

I was kind of ticked, because the guy could have told him that last week when he handed in the application, instead of getting his hopes up.  Now we're all hoping that before the summer is over, Ryan will be called in for a job.

A Summer Job?

It's weird not to be putting the kids to bed right now.  During the school year, I am very strict with bed times.  During the Summer, not so much.  I think it will take me a week or two to adjust to our new non-schedule, and then things will be right in my world.  At least until school starts back up in August.

The kids are planning all kinds of activities for their Summer.  Camping is high on their list, as well as swimming at my mom's house.  I am thinking, and stressing, about money, but what else is new.  I want to be able to camp for a week this year, but I don't think it's going to happen.  I may have to get a job selling Illinois home insurance, or something.   I know being a salesperson is a hard job, especially when you have to sell a business insurance policy.  But, I am a fast learner, and I think it might be something I am good at.  That is, as long as I am able to do it over the phone.  I am not good with the face to face stuff.  At all.   But giving out business insurance information  over the phone can't be too hard, right?

Or maybe I should just go back to working fast food for awhile?

The Car Guy

Junior does a lot of car repairs. He has become known as the car guy at his work, because his co-workers are always getting him to fix their cars. We don't have a garage, so he has to do the work in our yard. This causes a problem when he has to jack up the car to get underneath it, because the jack sinks into the grass. I need to get him some outrigger pads that he can put under the jack, which would stop the sinking. Either that, or we need to move somewhere that has a garage where he can work.

I know he would love that.

Working Third Shift

When I met my husband, he worked delivering appliances. He hated that job, and was actively looking for something better. He ended up going to school and became a Certified Nursing Assistant. He didn't really like this job much better, but it was pretty good money. This was when he started working third shift. For the next 12 or so years, he changed jobs a few times, but he always worked third shift. I didn't mind, but I couldn't understand how he could function on so little sleep. He would come home, sleep for a couple of hours, get up for the day, and then try and sleep a couple of more hours before going into work. I was working at the time, so he had to watch the kids during the day. The women I worked with always worried about him driving home from work, because they were concerned he would fall asleep. Turns out this is an actual problem, called Shift Work Disorder. It's basically about driving sleepy, and not paying attention to your driving. I have heard that driving while sleepy can be compared to driving drunk. That is a scary thought. Luckily, in the 12 years or so he worked odd hours, he never had an accident. Now he works mornings, which allows him to sleep at night like a normal person.

I also no longer worry about him as much.

Make Money Online

I have people ask me all the time how I make money online. I don't really know what to tell them, because in all honestly, I don't know very much about all the possibilities out there. I know what works for me, but I also know that there are many ways of generating income that I am unaware of. I would love to be able to make enough money to pay off some bills, and maybe even put some money into a savings account.

Working The Fields

Junior has been busy working for Del, his ex-father-in-law. This is the same man who is trying to open up a produce stand/flower store. In the past, he has gone to the farmers market and bought produce to sell. This year, he decided to grow his own produce. He has hundreds of tomato, okra, cantaloupe, and watermelon plants in the ground in a field behind his mother-in-laws house. He asked Junior a few weeks ago to help him set up an irrigation system, but he didn't want to buy one. He wanted Junior to figure out how to make one from scratch. Luckily Junior is good at that kind of thing. Well, he is good at a lot of things. He could work for San Francisco general contractors. He has a knack for figuring out how something should be done, and then he can do it. Just like that. He doesn't have to write out a plan. He amazes me sometimes doing that.

Anyway, once the produce starts coming in, Junior will be in charge of running the produce stand. Del tried to get me to do it, but I said no. I have too many other things going on right now.

Like sitting in the sun, enjoying a good book, or watching the kids swim and have fun in the pool. T

New Hours

Junior is finally adjusting to working his new hours. It's a little hard on me having to get him up at 3am, but school will be out in two weeks, so it will all work out. The only problem he is having is with his feet. He is standing now, instead of walking around. I know, what's the difference? He says there is a difference, and he is looking into getting a pair of work boots to help with his posture. He is leaning over and bending more now, and even though it's hard on his back, it's not a bad as lifting lumber eight hours a day. Besides, he says it's worth it to have weekends off.
